Timeline of Student Email Changes

Moving students from Google Workspace accounts to Microsoft 365 is a big project involving Information Technology, Academic Technology, and student services.

Please make note of these important project milestones and requirements:

October 1 - 15:

  • Fielding IT will prepare our Google Workspace accounts for migration to Fielding's Microsoft 365 account.

      During this time, students can:

  1. Get to know Outlook for Email
    • Explore the features and benefits of Outlook for email.
  2. Learn how to use Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and more!

October 16-23:

  • Fielding IT will work with our vendor, Computerland, to test the migration with a subset of Google Workspace accounts. 

      During this time, students should:

  1. Download and back up your files from Google.
    1. IT will migrate all of your emails and files from Google Workspace to Microsoft 365. However, we recommend you take the precautionary step of backing up important emails, files, or folders:
      1. How to Download Your Google Data
  2. Make a list of shared documents and collaborators.
    • Sharing permissions and lists of collaborators are not carried over from Google to Microsoft. Therefore, you will need to record the membership lists for any shared folders and documents. You will then need to "re-share" the item with those contacts once it is migrated to OneDrive.

October 24:

  • Fielding IT will copy data (emails, folders, and files) from your Google Workspace account to your Microsoft 365 account with Fielding.
  • Fielding will send your new Microsoft 365 account access information to your student Gmail address.

      During this time, students should:

  1. Log in and begin using your Fielding MS 365 account.
  2. Update your email address with all of the subscriptions and services where you previously used your student@email.fielding.edu address.
  3. Inform your contacts of your new email address.

Note: You will have access to both your Google Workspace account and Microsoft 365 account from October 24-October 30.

October 31:

  • Student access to Google Workspace through Fielding will end.
    • Fielding IT will conduct one final migration, copying your data from Google Workspace to Microsoft 365.

October 31- August 31, 2024:

  • Emails sent to your @email.fielding.edu will be forwarded to your Outlook account until August 31, 2024. 

      During this time, students should:

  1. Make sure to update any contacts or accounts that use your old email address.
