Prior to the start of each term, the Registrar’s Office creates a Moodle shell for each scheduled course - typically 55 days prior to the start of the course. If you want to copy content from a previous course into a new shell, it’s very easy to do using the steps below. If you have questions or need assistance, please email Registar@fielding.edu or AcademicTechnology@fielding.edu .
- Know the short name of the course you want to clone content from. This can be found in the course breadcrumb trail or in the Edit course settings:
- Enter the Moodle shell you want to import content into.
If there is content already there that you do not want, select Turn editing on and delete it all. You can skip this step if the shell is already blank (a basic template with empty topics).
- Once your shell is empty: 1) click on the left hand “hamburger” Menu; 2) Scroll down to Course Administration; and 3) choose Import.
- On the next screen, you will Find the course to import data from. Use the Search bar at the bottom to enter the Course short name of the shell you want to import/copy. Click Search.
- It will find the previous course. Click the check box to the left to confirm it’s the one and click Continue.
- The next few screens are about which course items you want to clone. The default is for all of them to be checked. If that holds true, you can simply click Jump to final step. If you want to be more selective, uncheck the items you don’t want to import and click Next instead.
- A progress bar will show that the course is importing. When it’s done it will say: “Import complete. Click continue to return to the course.” Click Continue.
You will then be taken back to the home page of your new course shell containing all of the content from your previous course shell.
